Foreigner arrested in Bishkek for involvement in online fraud

Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, in cooperation with colleagues from Kazakhstan and Russia, disrupted the activities of an international criminal group engaged in online fraud. The ministry’s press service reported.

According to the ministry, a foreign national, H.N., 31, installed and serviced equipment in Russia, Kazakhstan and arrived in Kyrgyzstan to set up the criminal scheme. During a search of his pace of residence, police seized a SIM-BOX device with 32 slots, 71 SIM cards, and other equipment. Using this technology, fraudsters were able to spoof phone numbers, disguising calls as local ones and posing as law enforcement officers or bank representatives.
