It is planned to oblige owners of cafes and restaurants to support domestic producers of soft drinks and alcohol. The initiative was announced by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan.
The draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers states that the owners of public catering outlets will be required to include at least 50 percent of locally produced alcoholic and non-alcoholic products in their assortment.
This requirement does not violate the obligations of Kyrgyzstan to the WTO and the EAEU. Promotion of national drinks, according to officials, will increase the recognition of the country and help develop tourism. They also expect to attract investment.
